Veronica Bucci graduated from Pawling High School as part of the Class of 2019 and was part of the Science Research Program for three years. She joined the program due to her love of the sciences and desire to learn more about the world around her. Upon entering the class, she began her research in the field of Adolescent Psychology. Her research targeted the effects of stress and anxiety on memory, self-efficacy, and impulsivity within teenagers. Under her mentor at Sarah Lawrence College, she conducted autobiographical memory surveys during the Summer of 2017. Her results suggested that teenagers with higher self-efficacy have the best ability to recall the past, think about the future, problem-solve, and be more detailed in their writing. After her research was complete, she began to develop a new study in the field of Child Psychology. Veronica studied a child's tendency to lie, make impulsive decisions, and think morally dependent on their personal view of trust in their environment. Her study found that when children feel supported and comfortable with the people around them, they will be less impulsive and tell few lies. Veronica is currently studying Forensic Psychology at Syracuse University. She works in a Psychology Lab that focuses on determining effective treatment methods and coping mechanisms for those with alcohol and drug abuse problems. If you have any questions for Veronica about her research, please email her at [email protected].
